Perhaps this is blowing an out of context quote out of proportion, but it seems as though Mumford & Sons have something new up their sleeves. After two albums of indie folk music, they have told NME that their next record may feature electric guitar and synthesizers.
Rather than have you wonder the context, here’s the full quote from Marcus Mumford on it: “We’ve always done what feels good, rather than what we’ve thought long and hard about, and we’ll do whatever feels soulful next, whether that’s with an electric guitar or a synthesizer.” Perhaps this doesn’t indicate the next album will be different, and Marcus is just trying to say that he’s always done exactly what he wanted. That said, member Ben Lovett added “We’re not going to be the band that stands for folk music or organic music.” That quote confirms their exploration in our eyes; for better or worse, Mumford & Sons as we know them now completely stand for folk music or organic music, so we smell change brewing.
