Today is a sad day for fans of pop music. After seventy-two years of life and more hits than most artists ever record, news broke today that soul singer Fontella Bass recently passed away in a St. Louis hospital from complications she suffered following a heart attack three weeks ago. She’s survived by her four children.
For those of you scratching your head over the name Fontella Bass, fear not. Most of us were not even figments of our eventual parents imagination when she topped the charts, but I am more than likely to bet almost everyone has heard her biggest hit, “Rescue Me.” You can view one of the first televised performances of the song after the jump.
Rest in peace, Ms. Bass. You will be missed.
