UTG PHOTOS: Asking Alexandria, I See Stars, Memphis May Fire, & As I Lay Dying (12/1/12)

Under The Gun sent Head of Photography, Kellie Gannon, to the Monster Energy Tour on December 1, 2012 in Cleveland.

As everyone in the history of the world knows, December is always the most hectic and strenuous month of the year (the Mayans can especially vouch for this, damn those guys).  At the beginning of the month, I attended the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour featuring Attila, I See Stars, Memphis May Fire, As I Lay Dying, and Asking Alexandria.  Then somehow December took over and I managed to finish a huge photo project, Bachelor’s degree, prep to move, and discover several medical issues all in the same month.  But life goes on, and these photos must be posted!   They’re too much fun not to share!  Next to Taking Back Sunday’s “Tell All Your Friends” 10th Anniversary Tour, this stop on the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour is tied for my top favorite tour of 2012.  Boasting an epic lineup and taking the sold out Agora Theater in Cleveland by storm on the night of December 1, 2012, this was exactly what a show should be.

I See Stars

Attila is not pictured, but they set the tone for the rest of the night.  Every band was full of energy and pulled out all the stops.  I See Stars, fresh off getting kicked off the doomed The Thug In Me Is You Tour, was welcome by the sold out venue and commenced jumping around onstage and in the crowd while playing hits from their 2012 release “Digital Renegade.”

Memphis May Fire

Memphis May Fire did what they always do and got the crowd amped up.  From the balcony where I was shooting I was overlooking massive mosh pits that made even me a bit nervous.  While watching an injured mosher get carried out, more kids rushed head first at each other while lead vocalist Matty Mullins perched atop the stage risers singing his heart out.

As I Lay Dying

As I Lay Dying was the most dramatic set of the night.  The band’s intense lighting, stage presence, and strobe made shooting very interesting while AILD turned the Agora into more havoc (if that’s even possible) than before.  Right before their set, I was honored to run into a friend who was on leave from the Army and said he was at the show to see AILD.  He was so happy to have the chance to see them while home in Cleveland for a bit.

Asking Alexandria

Asking Alexandria certainly made for the most epic performance of the night (and epic is a word I rarely use, so they definitely earned it).  From having to talk a drunk kid down from the second floor balcony because he wanted to dive into the crowd below, to watching another kid flip head first into the crowd and start a fight, to AA’s backdrop to honor Mitch Lucker, not to mention the rowdiest of rowdy crowd surfers, the entire hour plus set was matched with endless crowd enthusiasm and nonstop vigor.  Lead vocalist Danny Worsnop made the ladies swoon, the men aggressive, and the moshers mosh their faces off.  Not a single person in the balcony was actually in their seat. After a killer set, with an interlude to honor Mitch Lucker, AA returned to the stage for an encore that puts most encores to shame.  From the crowd to the bands to everything in between, the energy and crazy antics made this show one of the top shows of 2012.  Enjoy the full set of photos below!!  And happy holidays and happy new year to all!!!!
