Dave Grohl Forms Another Supergroup For A One Time Live Performance

Dave Grohl was the drummer for Nirvana, then the live drummer and guitarist for Mike Watt, then formed the Foo Fighters. After he made it with the Foo, he did Probot, briefly joined Queens of the Stone Age, and eventually formed Them Crooked Vultures. We can add another band to his last, although this one looks to be intentionally short lived: The Sound City Players.

The band will play at this year’s Sundance Film Festival on January 18. Sundance is where Grohl’s documentary, Sound City, is premiering. They’ll be playing tunes from the soundtrack; thus far, it is the only live appearance scheduled for the band. Who else is in it is unknown at this point, but with the lineup on the soundtrack being pretty insane, it’s possible that the ‘supergroup’ would still be a crazy assortment of musicians.

A lot of musicians are likely busy with their own projects at this time, but knowing Grohl, this appearance will be one to keep an eye out for. I’d expect a few of the artists that appear on the soundtrack – which includes appearances by Trent Reznor, Josh Homme, and Tom Petty – to appear. Stranger things have happened (Foo Fighters reference, anyone?).
