Parisian indie poppers Phoenix are hitting the road again! Yay!
But they don’t have any dates scheduled for the United States – continental, contiguous, or otherwise – yet! Boo!
Let me explain. The French band hasn’t played live for over two years since they wrapped their support tour for their breakthrough album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. It was downtime well deserved. In the interim, Thomas Mars had a baby with wife Sofia Coppola. The band did some movie scoring. Aside from that, little news trickled out of Phoenix’s camp.
But now Phoenix is gearing up for the release of their fifth album, title TBD, which is scheduled to come out in April via Glassnote Records. It’s gonna be big.
Festivals big. The first two dates Phoenix is announced to play are at Rock am Ring & Rock im Park in Nürburgring and Nürnberg (voted 2nd and 5th “Most German Sounding Cities” by German City Names Quarterly) on July 9th through the 11th. Consequence of Sound likens am Ring and am Park to the massive Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK.
Is this a prelude to stateside festival headlining appearances? Are we looking at a spring run of dates? We’ll let you know when we do.
