UTG INTERVIEW: Breathe Carolina

Fans of Breathe Carolina have probably noticed a lack of updates from the band over the last few weeks. Other than a small run of promotion around their Punk Goes Pop 5 contribution, BC masterminds David Schmitt and Kyle Even have been locked away in various studios around the country working hard on what will eventually become their fourth studio album. We were able to catch up with the duo last night on the eve of a major appearance on the hit FUSE show Warped Roadies to discuss their role in the episode and what fans can expect from their new material. Click through the “Read More” link below to find out what they had to say.

Warped Roadies airs every Friday at 11pm (EST).

UTG: Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to speak with us. Tonight’s episode of Warped Roadies is highlighting the Buffalo, New York stop of the tour. According to reports, you two play a big role in the episode. Can you tell us anything about what we can expect from the episode and what your experience was like?

BC: You can definitely expect us to be goofballs. I’ve seen a lot of clips of the show with us and its pretty ridiculous, so I think that is a lot of what you can expect. We like to have a good time, and we like to portray that, so expect some quality entertainment. [We] are really curious to see what they put on the show. Hopefully there is a little prank with our friend Kenny, but we’ll have to see how it goes down [laughter]. Should be fun.

UTG: You have been involved with Warped Tour in the past, but this is the first year a reality show has been involved in the production. Was it important to you to be a part of the show? What did the opportunity mean to you?

BC: Definitely. When they asked us it was a huge thing. I mean just being on the tour and being able to play your music, especially on the main stage is pretty special. Then they asked us to do the show and it was even more awesome. We’ve been following Fuse and Warped Tour since the beginning, especially Warped, and it’s pretty cool to be a part of something you’ve always known about.

UTG: Looking beyond the show, I know you guys have been awfully quiet through the last few weeks of 2012. You had the Punk Goes Pop contribution, but that was about it. Can you tell us a little bit about what you have been up to?

BC:  It hasn’t been too quiet over here! We have been writing and working on new songs. We did some fly dates, spent a week recording in Miami with some guys, and from there have just been working hard all over the place preparing for 2013 and to unleash the next chapter of our lives. It’s really exciting, and we’re finally getting to a point where we’re almost ready to share it with everyone.

UTG: You guys have undergone quite an evolution from the first record and your early material on Myspace to what listeners heard on “Hit And Run.” Taking that into consideration. How would you compared the tracks on LP4 to what we heard from Breathe Carolina last time around?

BC: I think it’s [a continuation of] an evolution that we’ve just taken. We never sat down and planned anything out, we just write everything write itself and let brains or our emotions take off. I think what fans can expect is the same Breathe Carolina sound, dancey and fun, but we’re also going to bring back a lot of the, not obviously hardcore because we have never been hardcore, but you know, heavier pop. We want it to play from beginning to end like a raging party. The kind of album you can put on at a house party and just rage.

UTG: There is no doubt this appearance on Warped Roadies is going to leave even more people wanting to see you live. Looking at your progress on the album, how far are you from returning to the road?

BC: We’re actually in the middle of getting everything settled into a tour I cannot say anything about yet that will be starting in April and crossing the full US. We also have SXSW, South By So What, and a few other spot gigs. Once we get the album done we’ll hit the road.

UTG: Thank you both for taking the time to speak with us. Before we go, do you have any final thoughts to share with your fans?

BC: Thank you so much for your patience. We’re so excited to unleash what we’ve been working on and share it with all of you.
