The Dear Hunter Announce ‘Migrant,’ Release Album Trailer

This week may single-handedly go down as the best seven day period for music in 2013. There have been literally dozens of new albums announced and singles released that deserve proper attention, and just moments ago another came across our desk.

The Dear Hunter have built a reputation for pushing themselves as far into the creative waters as possible, so it should come as no surprise they will again try something different with their April 2 release, Migrant. The group is not abandoning their multi-act storyline, but this release will not fit into that arc.

“When I started writing this record, I made sure to limit myself to an instrument and my voice. I didn’t want to jump into the current of production I always had before – predetermining the final path of each song from its inception. Instead, I let the music take as natural a course as it could,” frontman Casey Crescenzo explains of the process. “What felt at first to be the seeds of the starkest songs, grew into some of the most lush and beautiful arrangements I had written to date. Keeping the heart of the music so transparent was liberating, and the result is, at the very least, the most creatively rewarding record yet.”

In addition to his new approach, Migrant is also the first album Crescenzo has written from a first person perspective. Given the lengths gone to in order to create a seemingly real universe on the Act releases, one can only imagine what will happen to The Dear Hunter’s sound when the source material stems from real life.

No singles have been released from the album as of yet, but a trailer for the record featuring snippets of material can be viewed below alongside the album’s tracklisting and the group’s upcoming North American headlining tour dates.
