It’s the No Doubt cover to end all No Doubt covers.
Andy Hull and the boys in Manchester Orchestra teamed up with manipulators of sonic atmosphere O’Brother to tackle of one alternative rock’s most potent and enduring ballads “Don’t Speak”. If this cover is any indication of what kind of music these two bands would make if they joined forces again in the future, then they should consider teaming up for the long haul. The groups take the delicate yet punchy melodic anthem and transform it into a noisy, immense jam. From the passages steeped in cavernous reverb to the whispered verses and chorus around the six-minute mark before it screams along to the finish, it’s a cinematic, cathartic masterpiece.
In short, IT WORKS SO GOOD.
The track comes from the Thrice/Manchester Orchestra+O’Brother split EP that came out late last week. Unfortunately the limited pressing sold out in quick fashion. But someone was kind enough to upload a vinyl rip of the track to YouTube for your listening pleasure.
