Avicii Partied His Way Straight Into The Hospital

Superstar producer-cum-DJ Avicii had a great 2012, chock full of hit singles, 300+ shows on the road, with a fashion endorsement deal he managed to squeeze in along the way.

How does someone handle that much success? Especially in the EDM world, where every performance is a party and temptation is ever-present? Well it sounds like Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, is enjoying la dolce vita right now. But only after a scare set him straight.

In an interview with inthemix, Bergling revealed that the EDM lifestyle cost him a hospital bill.

“I was so much more into [non-spot partying] before, though. I was drinking a whole lot more and I was going to after-parties and just generally not being very professional. But my body just couldn’t take it and I ended up in the hospital at the beginning of last year – so, like a year ago. Really, because of drinking.”

It sounds like it was an issue of maturity though. Bergling first hit the road when he was a fresh-faced 18 year old straight out of high school. Think about all the stuff you got into during your early college years. Then think about what you would’ve done with nearly unlimited disposable income and were the center of attention at nearly every social gathering you went to. It’s not too surprising that Bergling’s ways would catch up with him in time.

Fortunately Bergling, like many successful young professionals, has figured out the work-life balance.

“Since then I’ve done a complete 180 and I’ve been taking it really easy. I’ll still have fun on occasion, but I have to pick my battles, I really do. I don’t know how some people do it when they party for years and years and years. I crashed.”
