In an appearance on late night talk show Chelsea Lately, famed pop singer Sir Elton John revealed that he contributed to recording sessions for Queens of the Stone Age’s upcoming album.
If you consider that a surreal team up, consider what John’s schedule looked like that day. The pianist laid down some keys with Queens of the Stone Age immediately after recording vocals for a duet with Engelbert Humperdinck. This dude. He and Elton go way back. Ask your grandparents.
John described the experience of driving three blocks from Humperdinck’s studio to the room the Queens were holed up in as, “a bit of a mind-fuck”. Also, fun fact, Elton John also appeared on the last Alice in Chains album!
As if the upcoming Queens of the Stone Age album wasn’t already a star studded affair. In addition to John, other notable musicians to appear on the LP, due out some time this year, include Trent Reznor, original bassist (and crazy person) Nick Oliveri, Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan, and Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears.
Fans of the show might notice that Chelsea looks a little different in this clip! A new hairstyle? *whispers* Or maybe she put on a little weight?
Or maybe that’s just Dave Grohl interviewing John, because why not?
