Who Are The Half Moon Kids? What We Know About the Viral Campaign

In the past 24 hours, fans of predominately pop influenced bands have undoubtedly seen the same tweet from many of their favorite musicians that reads, “Who are The Half Moon Kids? Be brave. Be curious.,” each tweet ending in a URL for halfmoonkids.com.

Who Are the Half Moon Kids? Why are so many musicians advocating their mystery? We aim to find out. Whatever the project is, it promises to reveal itself on February 25, 2013.

Until then, help us unravel the mystery of the Half Moon Kids by dropping us a line with tips or clues!

Let’s take a look at our findings.

Starting with the basics, we know that the Half Moon Kids have a website. On that website, there is a video playing some reversed music.

The video:

The music, reversed:

We took the tune, reversed the audio and found the lyrics to read, ‘we aint got much but we still got us.’

Who’s involved?

Well, the musicians tweeting about the website include Paradise Fears singer Sam Miller, The Cab members Alex DeLeon and Alex Marshall, Cartel vocalist Will Pugh, The Ready Set, and William Beckett.

What we assume:

We are under the heavy impression that this is a viral campaign for the band The Summer Set, who have recently completed their forthcoming album. All of their touring mates seem to be aware of the campaign, yet we’ve yet to see any of them take part on Twitter.

We’ll keep following the story and update this post as more develops.

UPDATE 12:16 EST: One of our readers dug up this Facebook photo of The Summer Set singer Brian Dales from July that has a note that is signed with “Long Live The Half Moon Kids.” Is this the title of The Summer Set’s new album? It appears so. Confirmation is expected on the 25th.

The note:

Friends,

This has been the best summer of my life.

It all began when the 5 of us moved into a house in Tempe, Arizona to begin writing for album #3. We learned a lot about ourselves. As much as we love touring, it felt good to finally have a break.

By day we were lounging by the pool, barbecuing, and writing songs. By night we were reuniting with old friends, drinking more than necessary, shooting pool, having Bob Seger sing-a-longs, and doing a lot of naked swimming.

The most important thing is that the 5 of us became closer than ever and learned exactly what kind of record we want to make. Third time is a charm, right?

John and I have spent this whole month of July, along with most of this upcoming August, in Los Angeles collaborating with a handful of our favorite writers and producers. It’s been an amazing experience. These are some of the best, most fun songs we’ve ever written and I promise in due time you will get to hear them. We’re coming up on 20 demos right now…..we’ll have 30 soon, then at the end of the year we’ll decide on the best dozen and record them.

I wish this summer didn’t have to end, but I can’t wait to meet some new friends in South America this fall and see all of our UK friends again.

Oh, and there’s a rumor we might tour in the US again at the end of the year. Details soon.

Long Live The Half Moon Kids,

Prince Brian
