Gaslight Anthem Releases Short Film ‘Every Word Handwritten’

New Brunswick, New Jersey’s The Gaslight Anthem recently premiered their 15-minute short film, Every Word Handwritten, co-written and produced by drummer Benny Horowitz.

“It wasn’t some gigantic Radiohead conceptual-brainchild thing,” the Gaslight Anthem drummer Benny Horowitz told Rolling Stone. The film was based a single record and the effect it can have throughout its lifespan.

The idea for the film was conceived when the band was tasked with coming up with a music video idea for the title track off their latest record, Handwritten. According to Rolling Stone, Horowitz took it upon himself to put his own plan to action.

“We were in London and I had this idea about the story of the record, things that would happen to it,” he explained. “So I sent it to all the guys.” Soon enough, the entire band had his back and the idea was set in motion. Horowitz called filmmaker and colleague Kevin Slack and the rest is history. The film was scored by Gaslight Anthem guitarist Alex Rosamilia alongside Wes Kleinknecht, a friend of the band.

“Alex is an extremely talented kid [who] when given opportunities, can do cool things with them,” Horowitz said of his bandmate. “I really wanted him to at least give it a try and it ended up being awesome.”
