HOLY SH!T: Nine Inch Nails Returning And Touring This Year

Well, this caught me by surprise.

Trent Reznor released a note on hipster music site Pitchfork saying the following:

NOTE FROM TRENT:

Nine Inch Nails are touring this year.

I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked – which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.

The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014.

Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.

While I love How To Destroy Angels, a Nine Inch Nails tour is going to do my heart good and my wallet bad this year. Also note the new lineup: Eric Avery is the former and original bassist of Jane’s Addiction, while Ilan has previously drummed for Nine Inch Nails, as well as on the new Paramore album. Adrian Belew is most famed for his work with progressive rock legends King Crimson, but also played guitar for David Bowie. No word yet on when said new material (I mean, that appears to be the origin of this all) will surface, other than the prior report that an album was to come after a greatest hits collection in 2014… but with the tour and the material in the works, hopefully things will happen sooner.

But Nine Inch Nails is back. Praise Trent’s work ethic; with new How To Destroy Angels, an appearance on the new Queens of the Stone Age, an appearance on the Sound City soundtrack, and the return of Nine Inch Nails, he’s a movie soundtrack away from doing it all in 2013.
