Gucci, Gucci, Gucci. Smh.
Atlanta-based rapper Gucci Mane caused a minor stir on Twitter this morning when he announced, apropos of nothing, that he would be changing his hip-hop nom de guerre from the recognizable Gucci Mane to… Guwop.
July 2nd I’m officially changing my rap name to Guwop and retiring the great GucciMane Thanks Fans, for 8 years as Gucci now it’s Wop turn

I understand this completely. We all need a change of pace sometimes! Like when you go to your favorite lunch spot and you order something that isn’t “your usual”. Or when you change your name after being in the rap game for nearly a decade. Analogous scenarios, to be sure.
But it turns out Mr. Mane had a change of heart!
I am officially NOT changing my name to Guwop it will officially stay Gucci Mane due to my Fans’ response.. Trap House 3 & Juug House July 2

Note the time stamps on both of those: the first tweet was sent on 9:20 am and the second went out on 9:52 am.
So it looks like social media response actually effected meaningful change on something for once. But wait! Was this all just a silly, low-key publicity stunt for Mane’s various upcoming releases? Is there a chance Gucci was just goofin’ (“Gucc-fin’ “) on everybody?
Ya’ll Hell … Lmfao

Gucci Mane, he of the ice cream face tattoo, attender of career day at jr. high, and now the fake-out name change. He’s awesome.
