We haven’t been following most of singer/songwriter Morrissey’s recent shenanigans, from his attempt to turn the Los Angeles Staples Center vegetarian for one night to his ongoing enmity with late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. He’s been a busy crank! But this was just too good (and too meme-y) to pass up.

Pitchfork is reporting that Rick Astley, 80s one hit wonder turned internet immortal, will be gracing the cover of Moz’s reissued single “The Last of the Famous International Playboys”. Yes, that’s the cover to above. It’s real.

The photo of the rather chipper looking pair dates back to 1989 and was taken backstage during a taping of Top of the Pops, a British TV program showcasing the week’s top charting songs.

It should be noted that Mr. “Never Gonna Give You Up” wasn’t Morrissey’s first choice. No, originally the sleeve of the single was to feature a previously unseen picture of Morrissey and David Bowie from 1992. However, it was not meant to be; The Thin White Duke forcefully requested that EMI UK, the label that is currently licensed much of his back catalog, not use the aforementioned photo for reasons he did not disclose.

But why would the mighty Morrissey capitulate? Well, maybe it has something do with the fact that Parlophone, the label reissuing “The Last of the Famous International Playboys”, is distributed by EMI. That possibly might have had something to do with it. It’s probably for the best though. What could possibly be better than this?
