STAND UP TUESDAYS: Doug Benson

Stand-Up Tuesdays is a weekly comedy spotlight written by the wonderfully talented Angie Frissore. Covering both known and unknown comics, Stand-up Tuesdays is your new source for all things funny.

This week, Angie puts a spotlight on Doug Benson’s comedy career. If you or your comedy troupe would like to be featured on Stand-Up Tuesdays, please email utgjames@gmail.com.

Polish off the glass bongs and gather round ye munchies, for this week marks the release of Doug Benson’s new film, “The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled”, exclusively through Chill.com. Following in the same footsteps as Louis C.K. and Aziz Ansari, Benson decided to sell his new comedy documentary directly to fans and include “bundles” that come with fan merchandise, t-shirts and other goods.

The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled follows on the breakout success of Benson’s previous documentary, Super High Me, where Doug embarked on a 30-day mission to smoke marijuana every day and evaluate the surprising results. The new documentary is a fast-paced look at life on the road for a comic with a rabid and often stoned following as he tours the country with his platonic life partner, Graham Elwood.

“For years people have been asking about a follow up to Super High Me, and since I didn’t want to go through an experiment like that again, I decided to just make a movie about what my life is like now, while continuing to have fun using Morgan Spurlock films as inspiration, so I got together with some friends and made The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled,” said Benson. “Since today’s movie theaters are filled with teenage vampires and hunger gamers, I decided the quickest route to getting this film to my fans would be online. I hope I’m right!”

Benson just might be onto something in his methodology, as his new documentary paints an accurate (and often hilarious) picture of life on the road as a touring comedian – and as a lover of all things green. Benson brings to light the throngs of bleary-eyed fans who are always anxious to indulge him in various party favors – in one scene, a die-hard fan gifts him with a liquid form of marijuana (which Benson immediately pours into his next airline cocktail).

And while The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled is most assuredly geared towards viewers of a like-mind, those who aren’t fans of weed can still enjoy the documentary, which offers some great behind-the-scenes glimpses of life as a traveling comedian.

The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled is hilarious, and made for sharing with friends,” said Marc Hustvedt, Head of Entertainment at Chill.  “We call this internet-first release the social window, from the moment a film is first available fans can easily share and watch it from anywhere in the world.”

The full feature film The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled, directed by Ryan Polito and produced by Sharon Everitt Polito and Bruce Smith, is available exclusively for HD download and streaming worldwide on Chill.com for $7.99. Additionally, Chill.com will be the only place fans can order exclusive, limited edition bundles with the film.
