This week, Angie puts a spotlight on Mitch Fatel’s comedy career. If you or your comedy troupe would like to be featured on Stand-Up Tuesdays, please email utgjames@gmail.com.

Oh my God…It’s been an awful long time coming, but comedian Mitch Fatel has finally released a new CD – a mere seven years after releasing “Super Retardo” back in 2006. Though I’ve never been one for patience, Fatel has proven that good things really do come to those who wait.

Fatel’s new release, “Public Display of Perversion”, released via BSeen Media, offers the awkward, awe-struck pubescent teenager-talking-about-sex-stuff that fans have come to love about the comedian, but this time, his material has evolved somewhat following his recent marriage.

“My whole life has been turned upside down, so I’ve been forced to write new material,” Fatel told My San Antonio. “Now I’m responding to a woman in my life and how I got a woman.”

Fatel’s brand of puerile amazement is simply delightful – his shy, almost meek stage presence betrays the depths of sexuality that is explored in his material, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats, never knowing where Fatel will venture next.

“I was on a date with this one girl, we were having dinner,” Fatel quips, “and halfway through dinner, I started to get that feeling like we were definitely going to have sex later…because she   had gone to the bathroom and left her drink with me.”

In an industry that’s chock full of performers complaining about themselves, their lives, and how much society sucks, Fatel’s feigned optimism and wonderment is a breath of fresh air. Even though his subject matter is completely sex-charged and, well, perverse, Fatel’s stage persona affords him the freedom to talk about how a woman’s vagina tastes and going down on a girl who had “implanted a hard butterscotch candy into her vagina” without even remotely offending (almost in a “kids say the darndest things” fashion).

With a timing and delivery that’s somewhat reminiscent of Mitch Hedberg and an air of innocence about him, Fatel’s “Public Display of Perversion” has surely made its way to the top of my comedy list. But why did it take Fatel so long to release another CD?  On his website, Fatel states:

“I’ve never been a huge fan of ‘Super Retardo’, even though I’m aware its many people’s favorite. I just think I should have waited a bit longer to make ‘Super Retardo’ because now, when I listen back, I realize the bits got better over time and I should have waited till they were more polished. So, my answer to that was to wait way too long to make ‘Public Display of Perversion’, to make sure it was super polished, and I’ve been rewarded with what I think is the best CD ever! But you be the judge.”

Let’s just hope Fatel doesn’t treat his career like a bankruptcy again and that we get more from him before the next seven years has passed. He’s just too damn enjoyable to pull a stunt like that again.
