The First ‘White House Down’ Trailer Proves Channing Tatum Will Save Us All

Last year, execs at two of the world’s biggest movie studios were determined to out-CGI one another, and as a result the rest of us were treated to two Snow White films released less than six months apart. We could bicker all day about which one sucked less, but as of this morning the feud between studios is apparently alive and well because Columbia Pictures just released their trailer for White House Down, aka the second “someone’s attacking the White House” movie of 2013.

It has only been out a week, but I am willing to wager the vast majority of our readers are well aware of a new film called Olympus Has Fallen. That film, which opened at #2 last weekend, follows a former presidential bodyguard (Gerard Butler) who must fight to take back the White House from terrorists who have kidnapped the Commander in Chief (Aaron Eckhart). White House Down, however, focuses on a policeman (Channing Tatum) who must save the president (Jamie Foxx) and take back the White House from a heavily armed paramilitary group. The latter appears to have far better CGI, but until it’s released that cannot be confirmed. Olympus looked okay until it was projected onto the big screen, but then the effects became about as flashy as a mid-level SyFy channel special. You can view the first trailer for White House Down below.

White House Down opens in theaters nationwide June 28. Comment below and let us know if the first trailer has you sold.
