First ‘RIPD’ Trailer Feels A Lot Like ‘Men In Black’

The long-gestating film adaptation of RIPD is due in theaters this Summer and today fans hungry for undead comic book action can enjoy the film’s first trailer.

Debuting late on Wednesday evening, the first full trailer preview for RIPD makes the film seem like a twist on the setup for Men In Black, with Ryan Reynolds filling Will Smith’s shoes as the fish out of water agent and Jeff Bridges taking the reins from Tommy Lee Jones as the dry-humored veteran. Of course, this team of crime fighters is made up of two dead guys who fight other undead abominations instead of two living guys fighting creatures from Outer Space, but one look at the trailer and you’ll see it’s essentially the movie making equivalent of playing madlibs. Reynolds is a top agent who, following an unforeseen turn of events, finds himself working for a secretive agency that protects Earth from creatures the general population doesn’t need to know exists, and he’s paired with a gruff partner (Bridges) to carry out his duties. The preview finds the pair swapping one-liners, discussing the appearance of CGI creatures, and battling through the streets of Boston. You can view the clip below.

RIPD is one of those films that has not only been subject to multiple reshoots, but also post-converted to be in 3D. To say we are cautious of the final product would be an understatement, but this trailer does hint at some fun times ahead. Comment below and let us know if you will be lining up for RIPD when it opens this July.
