Detroit Proto-Punk Legends Highlighted In First ‘A Band Called Death’ Trailer

Drafthouse Films has released the first trailer for the upcoming music documentary, A Band Called Death.

Before anyone had ever heard about The Ramones or The Sex Pistols, three brothers in Detroit were creating a brand of unique underground rock and roll that would eventually become the blueprints for the movement we now call punk. That band was Death, and though they never got their time in the limelight when they first began, their story has become one of those legendary music industry tales that must be heard in its entirety to be believed. You have everything here, from unlikely inspirations, to the development of a new genre, to being turned away by everyone in music, to eventually being recognized as some of the founding fathers of the last great musical movement. You can view the first trailer for the film below.

Death are still touring, and in light of the film’s impending release are also planning the release of a new album. One brother is no longer with us, but the two that remain are more punk than ever. Look for more details in the coming weeks.

A Band Called Death arrives on VOD and in select theaters nationwide this Summer.
