Machine Gun Kelly Honors Eminem In Detroit

Cleveland bred rapper, Machine Gun Kelly, has a long legacy of incorporating the artists who inspired him into his live set. On Warped Tour 2012 he could be found adding the likes of Blink-182, Limp Bizkit, and more into his routine, and fans ATE IT UP. Seriously, covers have always been cool, but I’m not sure anyone could have guess how successful hip hop covers would be (especially in a live setting).

Recently, Machine Gun Kelly took his current US tour through St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit, MI. Prior to the show, MGK met with fans on the stoop of St. Andrews and performed an acoustic rendition of Eminem’s Oscar-winning song from 8 Mile, “Lose Yourself.” Later in the evening MGK again paid homage to Eminem by dipping once more into 8 Mile and performing B. Rabbit’s final battle rap mid-set. Fans in attendance lost their minds both times, and we think a lot of you will too. You can view the video below.

As MGK says in the beginning of the video, these performances are “only fitting.” Eminem made his name at St. Andrew’s Hall, though often he performed in the lower portion known as The Shelter, and the venue does play a significant role in the film as well.

Machine Gun Kelly’s label debut, Lace Up, is available now wherever music is sold. I’m not sure if 8 Mile is on Netflix or anything, but if you haven’t seen that (or if it’s been awhile) seek it out as well. A bit rough around the edges, but a solid film overall with a killer soundtrack.
