Country music legend George Jones has passed away at the age of 81 following a short hospital stay.

Jones was reportedly admitted to a hospital on April 18 with complaints of fever and irregular blood pressure, but no official cause of death has been released at this time.

In life there are lots people who make a name for themselves that are missed when they’re gone, but only a select few go from simply being remembered to living forever as a testament to what someone can accomplish in a single lifetime. George Jones falls into the latter category as his contributions to the world of music have been so vast it’s unlikely anyone like him will ever grace the industry again. Jones has charted more country hits than any other artist (ever), and will be laid to rest having scored over 150 top ten hits.

We rarely cover country music on UTG, but there simply is not and never will be another George Jones. His influence goes beyond the world of country and touches on pop culture in ways most young music fans have yet to even realize. This loss will be felt for a longtime in the hearts of fans everywhere, including those on our staff.
