REVIEW: Ramsey – ‘You’ve Got A Lot Of Heart, Kid’ EP

ARTIST: Ramsey
ALBUM: You’ve Got A Lot Of Heart, Kid EP
LABEL: SwitchBitch Records
GENRE: Pop punk

There is a special place in my heart for pop punk. I might not be a die hard fan, but sometimes you just want to listen to some fast paced, upbeat jams that can only be served up by a pop punk group. Ramsey proves to have that staple pop punk sound with their raspy vocals, distorted guitars and quick percussion. They mean business, and are making a name for themselves with their brand new EP You’ve Got A Lot Of Heart, Kid.

The EP opens with the track “A One-Way To Anywhere.” The track is catchy and full of spunk – easily one of the best on the EP. It’s only bested by the song “Versus.” This track is a little bit more on the mellow side, but has a chorus that will grab your attention with verses like I plan to kill you with my next verse/So grab your noose and kill yourself before everyone kills you. It’s lyrics like those that will stay in your head for days.

The title track is another noteworthy song on the EP. The lyrics and vocals are filled with emotion, which are backed up by the skillful picking of guitar strings and intense percussion. This song proves these guys have something to say. The album closes with an acoustic version of “A One Way To Anywhere,” giving the lead vocalist to show he has a lot more vocal talent than just the raspy singing he does throughout most of the album.

The entire EP is lyrically driven, and is chock full of catchy hooks. Each track showcases the band’s talent to write meaningful and passionate lyrics. If you’re looking for a new album to check out then this one might be for you. It might not stand out as one of the best releases of the year, but it’s worth picking up for any fan of pop punk music. It’s a good start for a debut release, and I’m sure we’ll be hearing of these guys again soon.

SCORE: 7.5/10
