Black Flag Call Out Flag, Offer Free Download

Well, isn’t punk rock exciting when you’re older and jaded instead of young and angry? Black Flag, one of the most well known pioneers of the 80s hardcore punk movement, recently reunited as two different projects. One is the official reunion, still known as Black Flag, which features former members in vocalist Ron Reyes and band leader and guitarist Greg Ginn. The bassist for the recordings is “Dale Nixon,” which is actually a pseudonym for Greg Ginn; the bassist live is reported to be Dave Klein from Screeching Weasel. It should be noted that the lineup was originally supposed to feature former drummer, Robo, but now reportedly features Gregory Moore.

Confusing enough? Let’s continue on. The other project is Flag, which features former Black Flag members Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski and Bill Stevenson, along with non-former member Stephen Egerton of the Descendants.

Black Flag put up a new song for download, and if that wasn’t an odd enough sentence on its own, they also offered some fighting words for Flag. They posted “***note: not to be confused with the ‘fake’ Flag band currently covering the songs of BLACK FLAG in an embarrassingly weak “mailing it in” fashion*** We urge you to check out the real BLACK FLAG when they hit your area.

Which Black Flag lineup is more legitimate? Is neither? Let us know in the comments. You can also grab the free download here.
