SHARKS ON A PLANE: ‘Bait 2’ Becomes ‘Deep Water’

When it was released, Bait quickly became the talk of horror forums and conventions worldwide. What’s not to love about a shark trapped in a grocery store, right? No one thought a sequel was necessarily needed, but when word broke in February about a second film that would focus on a shark loose in a California private school, we were fully on board. Now it seems the film has undergone some major changes, and suddenly things don’t feel quite as fun as they once did.

According to an article on Moviehole, Bait 2 has been retitled Deep Water and is currently up for sale at Cannes. No director has been set yet, nor details revealed explaining the change, but it is known this film will be a stand alone thriller. The plot about the kids trapped in a school has been completely thrown out and replaced with one about a group of people stuck in the middle of the ocean following a plane crash. They must remain in and/or on the plane to stay away from the sharks circling nearby, but who knows what will happen when it sinks.

As much as I loved Bait, I cannot say I am necessarily as excited for Deep Water as I thought I might be. What made the original so great was the inherent sense of silliness that made even the most terrifying moments come across with a dash of lightheartedness. Deep Water does not sound silly in the slightest, and if that is the case it may explain why the name was changed.

Will you see Deep Water when it eventually makes its way to our shores? Comment below and let us know your thoughts.
