STAND UP TUESDAYS: David Huntsberger

Stand-Up Tuesdays is a weekly comedy spotlight written by the wonderfully talented Angie Frissore. Covering both known and unknown comics, Stand-up Tuesdays is your new source for all things funny.

This week, Angie puts a spotlight on David Huntsberger’s comedy career. If you or your comedy troupe would like to be featured on Stand-Up Tuesdays, please email utgjames@gmail.com.

David Huntsberger‘s Explosion Land is the third release from the comedian and Professor Blastoff co-host and is certainly not for those looking for dick and fart jokes. Discussing topics such as science, evolution and aliens, Huntsberger presents a creatively funny and intellectually stimulating set of opinions on our place in the universe. Released on April 16, the comedian took a moment on his website to clarify the CD’s title.

“Apologies to anyone in the Boston area and those of you with family and loved ones there. The CD is still called “Explosion Land” (there’s not much I can do to change that at this point) and the explosions referred to are typically found in space. It is available on iTunes Tuesday April 16th through Stand Up! Records.”
Huntsberger forces his audience to think outside of the box, without forcing his own opinions down their throats. He cleverly proposes various sides to reality from an outside perspective, including the inevitability that someday, we’ll all have brain implants that will do most of our thinking for us.
“It’s really just because the right advertising hasn’t come out yet,” Huntsberger muses. “Your cell phone company hasn’t offered you six months of computer-chip-head yet. You haven’t heard all your friends go, ‘Dude, you don’t have a chip in – how are you living?!’”
“Explosion Land” may not be for the amateur comedy fan, in that you won’t find clever one-liners or joke set ups. Instead, Huntsberger forces you into an inner dialogue in which you’ll consider things you may have never expected to – such as the concept of going to hell for certain misdeeds.
“And yet there are still people…who still believe in hell and still chance it. Like, if I ended up in hell, I would just be like, ‘Did not see this coming, oh man. Whoo! This is a twist. Never thought this was possible. If I had thought for even a second this could actually happen, I wouldn’t have even jaywalked.’”
David Huntsberger is going to broaden your horizons in “Explosion Land” by hilariously pointing out the lunacy in our lives and beliefs. In 2006, Huntsberger was the runner-up in the annual Funniest Person in Austin Contest, and also reached the semi-finals on season four of Last Comic Standing. He regularly features for Nick Swardson and Doug Benson and has worked with Paul F. Tompkins, Maria Bamford, Eddie Gossling, Tig Notaro and Patton Oswalt. He has performed at the Bentzen Ball Comedy Festival in Washington, D.C. And at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, Oregon.
