Tom Hardy Rumored To Be Considering Lead In Elton John Biopic

Hold me closer, tiny Bronson. Things are potentially about to get very interesting.

Hollywood has been kicking around the idea of an Elton John biopic since the days of Almost Famous, and it seems things are really starting to come together. A new film currently titled Rocketman is being developed right now by director Michael Gracey and executive producer Elton John. The work is being described as “a biographical musical fantasy that weaves together the life of Sir Elton John and his music,” and just this morning some intriguing potential casting news found its way online.

Tom Hardy, who many know as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises or as the infamous Charles Bronson in Refn’s Bronson, is reportedly the current top contender to fill Elton John’s legendary shoes. Nothing is set in stone yet, and to be honest no one can even confirm if an offer’s been made, but several sources, including HitFix, is claiming this to be true. Whether or not it develops beyond initial discussions, however, is anyone’s guess.

Reflecting for a moment on Hardy’s career, it would not be all that surprising should he choose to take on the role of Elton John. If his career has proven anything it’s that he works very hard to not be placed in a box by anyone, and he’s willing to take on a challenging role to prove it. After The Dark Knight Rises and Lawless failed to be the award-winning juggernauts everyone hoped, this could be Hardy’s best shot to claim an Oscar so far, but it will certainly take a lot of hard work to pull off.

Do you think Tom Hardy has what it takes to be Sir Elton John? If not, who would you choose? Comment below and let us know your thoughts on this still-developing story.
