What happens when you want news coverage and you’re not doing anything news worthy? A normal person would probably suggest doing something to stand out. A rock band could consider a new album cycle, or going on tour… or posting a nude photo for no reason whatsoever. The Thermals, who describe themselves as “post-punk-power-pop,” said they would post a nude selfie after they gained ten thousand followers on Twitter.

Then, despite not getting to ten thousand followers, their guitarist/vocalist Hutch Harris posted a nude selfie on Twitter. The tweet’s defense? To “prove it wasn’t just a gimmick to get more followers.” Don’t think about that for too long; we’re sure they’re aware that the argument they’re presenting doesn’t make sense. (I’m not doing it for attention! Now, here’s a photo for your attention.)

We’d comment on what the Thermals are doing – they’re currently on tour and had a new record out – but this is a pretty crappy low in bands needing a pat on the back. Before they did it, they even said “it’s less that I’m using a nude selfie to get more followers and more that I’m using more followers as excuse to show the world my nkd body [sic],” so maybe he’s not an attention whore. Maybe he’s just a person who needs outside validation and wants to have his body at the forefront of daily discussion. You know, like an attention whore.
