Snoop Dogg to Voice Character in ‘Turbo,’ Releases New Song

Have you ever wished Snoop Dogg was a snail? If so, start rejoicing. The rapper will be voicing a character in the new DreamWorks film, Turbo, and has released a song from the soundtrack called “Let the Bass Go.” Listen to the song below.

“Let the Bass Go,” his contribution to the film’s soundtrack, was commissioned by the Animation CEO for the closing credits to have something with “electricity” and “energy.” Naturally they reached out to the now 41-year-old rapper. The song sees a return to rap sounds from the 80s. He describes it as the following:

“I’m on my old-school rap style there: we took sounds from the ’80s like an 808 bass to give it that Planet Rock and Going Back to Cali feel. It was about paying homage, while at the same time taking the movie to the next level… It’s something upbeat that everyone in the house can enjoy.”

The 3D family-friendly movie will see Snoop Dogg as “Smooth Move”, a snail who posesses a laid-back personality and gets into crazy adventures with the lead snail, Turbo. Of course. The film is sports-themed and follows Turbo, an ordinary garden snail who goes on to become the fastest snail in the world. Other guest voices include Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, and Samuel L. Jackson.

A dog, a lion, a snail: Snoop can be it all.

Turbo is set to release July 17.
