As recently as a month ago, it seemed indie rockers Bloc Party were working on new studio material and still working the music industry machine nonstop. Since then, NME has reported that guitarist Russel Lissack told Postmedia News “…after we finish the festivals in the summer we’ll be taking some time off. At least six months, maybe a year, maybe two years, it’s hard to say.” With their last summer festival being Latitude on July 19, we know we can expect the rest of 2013 off.
Is this hiatus going to be long? Perhaps not. They’ve taken time off before, most notably after 2009’s Intimacy. That said, the guitarist went on to say “Once we start taking time off people start doing their own thing. So once people start doing things, then you’ll start naturally extending how long we spend apart.” He also went on to confirm the EP they were rumored to be recording would be released this summer.
How long do you think the hiatus will be? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
