Washed Out Talks New Album; Stream New Song, “It All Feels Right”

Chillwave Godfather, Ernest Greene AKA Washed Out, has made quite a name for himself over the past few years. He went from sampling classic tracks on YouTube in his parents’ house, to a Sub Pop Records artist who peaked number 6 on the Billboard US Rock charts with his 2011 debut album, Within and Without.

Greene recently sat down with SPIN to discuss his new album, Paracosm, which is due out on August 13. Touching on the song writing process, Greene said, “I still feel like I’m learning. I have a way of working that I’ve been doing for the last few years, and I feel comfortable with it. But recording something like a live drum set is a real challenge for me because I don’t have a background in engineering or anything like that.”

The album is said to lean more on acoustic instruments, such as sitars and marimba, which is certainly a change in direction from his past synth heavy material. However, Greene still manages to maintain the sound that made him popular in the first place. His dreamy and spacious textures ooze from every inch of the soundscape, and paint a picture which is well depicted in the video for his new single.
