Watch The Teaser Trailer For Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘The Wind Rises’

Anyone familiar with Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved animated filmography (My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle) were likely ecstatic to discover that he would be releasing his first full-length film since 2008’s Ponyo this year. While The Wind Rises may not feature his usual brand of whimsical fantasy and creatively magical characters, the short teaser trailer that was just released shows that his animation is as beautiful as ever, even in a more realistic setting than the previous worlds he’s created.

The Wind Rises is based on the manga of the same name (Kaze Tachinu) and is a fictionalized biography of Jiro Horikoshi, the famed designer of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero which served in WWII. The film is set to release in Japan on July 20 and we here at UTG cannot wait until it becomes available in the states.

You can watch the 35-second teaser after the break. Let us know in the comments if you’re excited for Miyazaki’s newest effort and which of his, or any of Studio Ghibli’s previous works are your favorite.
