Old school emo musician Mike Kinsella’s solo work goes by the band name Owen, and his influence is turning out on modern musicians, particularly the likes of Into It. Over It.
Owen has a new album coming out, L’Ami du Peuple, on July 2 from Polyvinyl Records, his first since 2011’s Ghost Town. For the curious, l’ami du peuple translates as “the friend of the people” in French, but is most likely a reference to a newspaper from the French Revolution.
Today, SPIN Magazine posted a stream of the whole album. The effort features some crazy guitar solos and slumming drums, in addition to the songwriting and trippy fingerpicking we’ve come to expect from the band. One of the songs is also titled “I Got High,” and is not an Afroman cover. Can’t win them all. Stream it here after the break.
