I stumbled upon the sweet harmonies materialized by Tom Oakes and Kyle Lobeck at some point in 2009. I was no doubt searching through the vastness that is unsigned artists on Purevolume.com when I landed on More Amor‘s page and fell in love.
Songs like “Young Hollywood,” “Fold It Up,” and “Little Bit” on their self-titled record had me instantly hooked. From that point, I enjoyed their two subsequent releases, the Thanks? EP and their 2012 full length, In Spanish.
As much as I and many others adored More Amor, they never took off like perhaps they deserved to. That’s why, unsurprisingly, singer Tom Oakes left the following statement on the band’s Facebook page this week.
Hello world. Today I have an announcement for you all. Since it was my birthday yesterday, I feel day 1 of my new age (28) is a perfect time for a fresh start. More Amor as a musical project is done. This i’m sure will cause some sadness to the few of you who really love our band, but know that it causes happiness and excitement for a new future. I don’t think I planned on ever stopping this bandwhen I started it 5 years ago, but I suppose all things have their ends. More Amor has been such a journey for me, I poured so much of my head, heart, time, money, life and everything I had into this project, and sometimes things just don’t work out the way you think they will.
I love the music we made, The songs we created definitely were my favorite songs i’ve created in my 15+ years of realizing and chasing this dream. I feel like I finally found my voice with More Amor, found what I wanted musically, had the best friends to accompany me, had my creative control, it all seemed golden. Although, It never seemed like we could catch a break, we never could get to that next point, never really got that helping hand that you kinda need in order to reach some sort of success. Maybe we didn’t try hard enough, maybe maybe maybe a lot of things, who knows, but we are here now and that’s ok. I wish we had a chance to reach the masses, tour the world, play our three independent records for fans around the world, but unfortunately it didn’t and wont happen.
As time has passed, and with my injury to my knee i’ve had a lot of time to reflect and think about what I want for my future. It’s time to leave the musical world of More Amor behind. I’ll still be using More Amor for my art, and I have tons of other creative ideas brewing that i’d love to use the name for. I love the message of more love, I want the name to live on and I want make something successful from it. More Amor is my baby, it’s my first love and I will continue to use this page as an outlet to inform you of my art and things I plan to do with More Amor as it’s own world. So keep your eyes peeled for that.
On the other hand, I will never give up on MUSIC! I’ve been writing so much new music and I will be continue to record, write and figure out what’s next for me in this crazy career attempt I have chosen. Look out for a new project from me to pop up soon. I’ve never attempted a solo project but I feel this is maybe the time to do that. Or maybe i’ll join earth wind and fire. Either way I feel very positive and excited for a new beginning and fresh start. Sometimes you have to leave the things you love and stop hanging on to an idea. This is where i’m at and it feels glorious. So stay with me, new stuff is coming, new lyrics from new wisdom and new experiences.
