It’s hard to think too far ahead on the theatrical release calendar considering that we are still in the midst of an epic summer movie season, but this morning Time Magazine has given the world its first look at what may be Tom Hanks’ greatest role in recent memory.
Hitting theaters this December from The Blind Side filmmaker, John Lee Hancock, Saving Mr. Banks stars Tom Hanks as the legendary Walt Disney. The story is based on the true tale of Walt’s struggles to obtain the rights from P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) to Mary Poppins, which would eventually lead to the creation of the now classic family film. The first still shows Hanks walking through what we assume is Disneyland alongside Thompson, and from the looks of it, Mr. Hanks is a perfect fit to embody the man behind Mickey Mouse.
Saving Mr. Banks is scheduled to open nationwide December 20, 2013. Expect a trailer to surface sometime before the end of summer.
