SyFy Hints At ‘Sharknado’ Sequel

Over the past few weeks, SyFy’s aptly titled Sharknado, a coming-of-age tale in which hordes of sharks are picked up in a tornado and rain down on the West Coast causing mayhem and panic, has received an unparalleled amount of buzz across the interwebs. So much so in fact, SyFy is already discussing the possibility of a sequel.

In a recent sit-down, SyFy exec Thomas Vitale told THR that, “We’ve had a lot of meeting, emails. I’m not being coy, [but] that’s obviously being talked about.” Still, if the idea of a Great White Shark careening through the atmosphere excites you, you may have to be patient, as Vitale also went on to say, “There’s nothing going to be announced now just because we haven’t had real discussions with the real people we have to talk to about that.”

Just last week, the B-movie impressively garnered over 600,000 tweets in only a day; good news for SyFy, who relies on these films as free marketing tools online.

“We’ve had other movies where titles would catch some buzz, like Sharktopus or Jersey Shore Shark Attack, but the level that Sharknado reached, that was a surprise. It’s one of those happy accidents,” Vitale recently told Variety.

You can catch the official trailer for Sharknado below, and join in on the carnage this coming Thursday, July 18 at 7 PM, when SyFy will replay the masterpiece in full.
