Call me crazy, but this is just plain silly.
Following rumors that began to circulate shortly after noon yesterday, July 17, Exhibitor Relations has confirmed that Paramount Pictures has moved the release date of Paranormal Activity 5 from October 2013 to January 2014.
You may be thinking, “Wouldn’t a studio want their horror film to open near Halloween, just like the other four films in the franchise?” If that’s the case, we tend to agree. In fact, it seems no one knows for sure why PA5 was bumped, but some have speculated that Paramount hopes a January opening will mirror the success of The Devil Inside in January 2012 (which literally set records). Paramount Pictures has yet to officially comment on the move.
For those wondering, there will now only be one major horror film released in October, and that is the remake of Carrie. We’re sure a few VOD titles will surface as well, but overall Halloween 2013 is looking like the weakest season for genre fans in recent memory.
