Weeks after a rough cut hit the web via leaker, Kanye West has released the official version of his “Black Skinhead” music video.
Kanye West may be mildly insane, but there is no denying the fact he’s also one of the most innovative people in music today. In addition to surprising listeners with a world of new sonic ideas on Yeezus, Kanye is now challenging the conventional understanding of what a music video is supposed to be with “Black Skinhead.” Visually speaking, very little about the final cut is all that different from the version that leaked, but the technical side of things is an entirely different story. Thanks to a widget built into the custom player, fans can control the speed of the clip and even take screenshots at their leisure. You can view the video at the end of this post, but you’ll have to visit Kanye’s official site for the interactive version.
It may not be all that groundbreaking, but the tools showcased with this “Black Skinhead” video will likely become the norm in the years ahead. Fans want to control the content they interact with to an extent, and Kanye is taking bold new steps to further their ability to do just that. I’m still not crazy about the clip, but I have to applaud West’s efforts to always bring something new to the table. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the clip.
