There May Be Another ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Movie After All

Someone call Eddie Murphy and tell him he may soon be relevant again.

Reports are pouring in that Paramount Pictures has a renewed interest in bringing their Beverly Hills Cop franchise back to life. The series, which launched Eddie Murphy’s career as a movie star into the stratosphere, has been lying dormant since talk of Beverly Hills Cop 4 died in the mid-90s. CBS won a bidding war to bring a television series based on the franchise to life not long ago, but after months of buildup nothing ever surfaced. Now, thanks to a tweet from would-be series producer Shawn Ryan, we have a small glimpse at what may lie ahead.

Taking to Twitter on July 19, Ryan wrote (in a pair of tweets), “Sad to report that efforts to land Beverly Hills Cop pilot at another network have failed. This iteration is dead for now. Good news for fans of franchise is that the pilot tested so well, it has caused Paramount to put another #BHC movie into development.”

At this time no additional information regarding a new Beverly Hills Cop films has been reported, but we should note it has been almost twenty years since the 1994 release of Beverly Hills Cop 3. Whether the new will be a fourth chapter or a reboot remains to be seen, but one could argue the timing is ideal to bring Murphy back for one more adventure.
