UTG PREMIERE: DWHB – “Top Down Low” Music Video

Every once in a while, I take a break from movie-watching or album-spinning and I get social. I don’t mean going outside or hanging out with friends. I’m talking Twitter, yo. Heh…

One of the things I find best about Twitter is the instant ability to ask a bunch of people a question. My followers are pretty chatty and they field a good response, but they are generally all the same. They follow me for my tastes because they (normally) fall in line with theirs. So when I ask my followers a question about music or film, I like to open the discussion up to UTG’s followers as well.

You may have seen us ask about your favorite band on Warped Tour this year or the best unsigned acts that you’re aware of. If you haven’t, you can catch the next survey by following us.

In one such poll, I asked for bands that we’ve probably never heard of. There are tons of them. I’m not sure if you know this, but there are a lot of musical groups these days. The selection is endless. Remember that when you’re complaining about a crappy band. That energy could go to good use on some talent. Anyway, one of our responses came from @dwhbmusic. They were self-promoting, but they had a dog in their profile picture that was wearing glasses. So I clicked.

The result was astounding. DWHB (Dem Waffle Houze Boiz) is a three-piece hip hop group from Austin, Texas. They are white. This is unimportant, but I mention that because they fit the stereotype of white rappers. They are white, they are nerdy, and they are totally fun. One listen through their full length record, Dog Park, had UTG writer Dan Bogosian and myself sold. I actually bought the album which was available for free.

I reached out, I let them know that we really enjoyed their production and vocal contrast (there are some great influences throughout the record). These kids really impressed me. They hit me back. They had plans for a music video and they wanted to know if we wanted to be involved. We did. Now we are.

We’re pleased to present DWHB’s music video for “Top Down Low” today. Check it out below and download the tunes here.
