File under: things to be interpreted either way. After this weekend’s rumor that André 3000 would put out his first true solo album at the top of 2014 after a tweet said “Me: hey what’s up? You got the movie coming, right? Andre 3000: yeah…and I got a solo album coming top of the year. Me:*droptofloor*,” a representative of his has talked about the matter to Billboard. There, the rep said “Regarding reports of a specific plan to release an album in early 2014. [sic] There is no official confirmation on that report.” Earlier this year, 3000 confirmed with GQ that he was working on a solo album.
Because the album is confirmed to be in the works and the representative said “official,” one can still interpret this as they please. An optimist would say 3000 probably meant his off-the-record remarks that spread on the internet like wildfire; a pessimist would say Outkast is dead and go listen to Big Boi’s latest solo album.
3000 has featured on plenty of tracks a guest, despite no output with Outkast since 2006’s Idlewild and no solo album. Rumors of an Outkast reunion kicked up last year after Big Boi remixed a Frank Ocean song to make both halves of the duo appear on a single track. You can hear that remix of “Pink Ocean” here.
