Community’s Donald Glover Lands New Series Based on Atlanta Music Scene

Comedian Donald Glover may be leaving Community, but his next gig isn’t too far away. The actor and comedian has just signed on to write, executive produce and star in a half-hour comedy that is currently in development with FX. Set around the comedian’s home town and its music scene, Glover’s new project is tentatively titled Atlanta, which isn’t surprising given the comedian’s active music career as hip-hop artist Childish Gambino.

While several networks were reportedly interested in the project, Glover was ultimately attracted to FX’s willingness to accommodate his busy hip-hop touring schedule. Glover will appear in five of the thirteen episodes of the fifth season of NBC’s Community as former high school quarterback-turned-air conditioning repair annex recruit Troy Barnes. Fans will no doubt be anxious to see Glover in this new project after last year’s talks of the comedian developing a show for NBC fell by the wayside. In 2011, Glover released his second stand up special, Weirdo, which can be purchased at Amazon.com.
