Hot on the heels of last week’s incredible Thor: The Dark World trailer, Marvel Studio has released an official (and rather in depth) plot synopsis for the next post-Avengers epic, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Currently in production as we report this story, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be the first Marvel release to roll out in 2014. There has been a lot of talk about the film in recent weeks, including the confirmation of Scarlett Johansson and Robert Redford being involved, and this morning we got our first description of the plot. The official press release reads:

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, DC and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy — the Winter Soldier.

Very few images have surfaced from the set of Winter Solider, and absolutely no video content has been made available. If I had to guess, I bet the first trailer will debut before Thor in November, but again that would only be a guess.
