Joell Ortiz Responds To Kendrick Lamar On “Outta Control”

You knew this was coming.

A little over a day after the internet got ahold of Big Sean‘s “Control,” which featured Kendrick Lamar delivering one of the most discussed verses of the year, Joell Ortiz has issued a response to Lamar’s claim of hip hop being weak with a new track entitled “Outta Control.”

Some say if you want to join the conversation you have to attack the king, and with that in mind Joell Ortiz has certainly made his name worthy of a trending topic with “Outta Control.” He’s aware Lamar is probably not familiar with everything he’s recorded, but still wants it known there are artists fighting for originality in hip hop. He agrees the hierarchy of mainstream urban music is to blame for the redundancy in music, and that includes (to an extent) Kendrick Lamar. You can stream and download the response below.

You may be thinking to yourself, “Did Kendrick mention Joell Ortiz on that Big Sean song?” The answer is no, he did not. Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller were named, but none have released any response at this point. We’ll let you know if that changes, of course, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
