New Foo Fighters Album To Be Recorded In Early 2014

In an interview with the U.K. radio station XFM earlier this week, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl announced that the group has completed writing their next album, and that fans can expect a follow-up to 2011’s Wasting Light at some point within the next year.

“Well, I’ll tell you, we have been in our studio writing, and in the past few weeks we’ve written an album and we are going to make this album in a way that no one’s ever done before, and we’re pretty excited about it,” said Grohl.

The news came as a relief to many, as just under a year ago, Grohl not-so-gently announced that the outfit would go on a hiatus from songwriting for an unspecified duration of time, leaving many to speculate that perhaps the five-piece would soon be throwing in the towel. Thankfully, however, this was not the case, as only a few short months later, Grohl effectively put such rumors to rest at the BRIT Awards, where he stated, “I return to Los Angeles tomorrow to start work on a Foo Fighters record.”

In the months since, both Grohl and his bandmates have alluded to the upcoming album on a number of occasions, though details have been nonexistent until recently. Drummer Taylor Hawkins made waves back in June when he told Billboard that Grohl had been “working overtime” on the release, while just earlier today guitarist Chris Shiflett confirmed that the group has begun rehearsing new material and will head into the studio in 2014.

“We’ve started rehearsing,” said Shiflett during a sit-down with Rolling Stone. “We’re going to start recording the new Foo Fighter record at the beginning of next year.”

The group’s most recent full-length, Wasting Light, was recorded in Grohl’s garage using only analog equipment beginning in the summer of 2010, and impressively went on to garner an unparalleled amount of praise from virtually every type of media outlet imaginable. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, the first Foo Fighters album to ever do so, and would later win five of the six Grammys which it was nominated for that year.

Simply can’t wait a year to once again have Dave Grohl’s sweaty mane waving in your face like a majestic lion? Me either, which is why you can check out the Wasting Light single, “Rope,” below.
