Lady Gaga Releases “Applause” Video

You may want to start your second cup of coffee before watching the video at the end of this post. Consider yourself warned.

Following an early morning New York City takeover, which included projecting the following clip on the world famous screens in Times Square, Lady Gaga has made the official video for “Applause” available online.

Blending together a half dozen seemingly random (or should I say artistic?) ideas into one beautiful mess of a clip, the video for “Applause” is almost guaranteed to keep Gaga in trending atop pop culture charts for another week, if not more. The video opens with Mother Monster performing on a soundstage, but before long cuts to a handful of different soundstage scenarios featuring increasingly absurd versions of the pop superstar, including a black swan with Gaga’s head. There is the typical flair for theatrics and thinly veiled sexuality throughout, but it seems clear to us Gaga is trying pretty damn hard to push the visual envelope wherever she is able. You can view the video below.

I love when Gaga gets weird. The recent videos of her wandering naked in a forest have nothing on the visuals contained in this clip, and even if the song itself does little for your pop-loving ears it’s hard to imagine anyone not wanting to watch this clip at least a handful of times.

“Applause” is the first of what we assume will be many singles off Gaga’s insanely anticipated new album ARTPOP, which is scheduled to arrive in stores November 11. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on Mother Monster’s latest.
