Not a week goes by without a major Marvel property (or more) making headlines, and this afternoon it’s Guardians Of The Galaxy jumping into the newsfeed.

In a new interview with Empire Magazine, Marvel President Kevin Feige divulged a plethora of new tidbits regarding the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy feature film. He first revealed the film takes place during the same timeline as the other “phase two” Marvel property, but admitted no specific date is given. He then commented on the villains our heroes will face, and that is when things got really interesting.

Shortly after mentioning the timeline bit, Feige was asked how Guardians connected the feature world with the rest of the “phase two” films. He replied, “Certainly more than the others. We’ve already said that Thanos plays a part in it and is a character in it. That in and of itself should tell you it’s connected to the other worlds.” Upon hearing the name Thanos, Empire immediately followed-up to ask if he was indeed the film’s main villain. In a surprising move, Feige revealed “Ronan The Accuser is very much the main bad guy. And Thanos is lurking above it all. You will learn more about Thanos in Guardians, for sure. Certainly you’ll get more than the one turn around and smirk. You’ll get much more than that!”

The wink Feige refers to is a lighthearted joke about Thanos’ initial appearance at the very end of The Avengers. His name has been mentioned a lot in regards to Marvel’s three phase plans of releases, and its seems like only a matter of time before he’s the main villain in someone’s (or some group’s) movie. Guardians Of The Galaxy is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters August 1, 2014. Director James Gunn admitted this week that there is “zero chance” the early footage shown at Comic-Con this year will be properly released online, but if you use a certain very popular search engine you may be able to find a cell phone quality leak of the clip.
