Swoon: Katy Perry Releases “Roar” Video

The girl who kissed girls and added to the liquidity of Teenage Dreams for the better part of the last decade is back again, and this time she’s channeling the sexier side of jungle life.

Crashing into a thick forest with only her shallow boyfriend at her side, the video for Katy Perry’s new single “Roar” opens like a dramatically over-lit scene from your mom’s favorite daytime soap. They struggle to find their way through the unknown land, and in a moment’s notice Katy’s lover is struck down by one of the jungle’s fiercest beasts. She could crumble and let the world devour her, but she stands strong, and in the face of adversity fights to survive by channeling her spirit animal (a tiger, of course). She may be down, but she’s certainly not out.

“Roar” debuted to mostly positive reviews back in mid-August, and earlier this week became the first single to dethrone Robin Thicke’s long-running stay atop the pop charts. This video is confectionary magic, and it’ll sure help sell a few hundred thousand additional singles.

Prism, Katy Perry’s long-awaited new album, hits stores in October.
