Bastille Covers Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” With An 8 Mile Twist

Today I shopped for groceries. I normally hate doing this, but today it was ok. I think Bastille had something to do with that.

For the majority of the morning and afternoon, I had Bad Blood on repeat. This is simply one of the best albums this year. It’s stunning. Listening to this while pushing around Walmart completely took me away from the scary people crowding each aisle with no regard for other folks trying to do their business. I digress… Bastille is phenomenal.

After coming home and devouring an entire rotisserie chicken, I hopped on the YouTube and found BBC Radio 1’s latest live lounge session. Who was it? Bastille, of course. The song? “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus.

You have to hear this.

Using Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” as the musical bed leading in and throughout, Dan Smith soars over 8 Mile. There is also a Billy Ray reference in there. Some commenters seem to believe there is a musical allusion to Lion King as well, but I’m not as Disney savvy as I once was, so I’ll leave that for you to find.

I agree with you 100% on this album. I have been a super fan since March of this year after getting to see them at SXSW for their first time in the US. I got to meet Dan and was so happy when the full length CD came out in the US because half of the great songs they sang live I could not hear outside of youtube. I am truly happy for their success and don’t miss a chance to ever see them live – they put on such a great show.
