Ellen Page Wants A Kitty Pryde Movie, Do You?

Finding strong female characters in comics has been a struggle for decades, and in recent years the same has been the case for the box office record setting comic adaptation hitting the silver screen. If you’re about to argue that Black Widow made an appearance in Avengers, take a moment and consider just how many lines of dialogue she actually had. Go on, we’ll wait.

Anyway, hot on the heels of news that DC Comics lost their Batwoman writers because they wouldn’t allow their character to marry, the discussion about the role of women in comics is trendier than ever. People keep asking who will be the first female hero to get her own film (in a modern sense, we don’t count Catwoman or Elektra and neither should you), and recently Ellen Page added her two cents to the conversation.

Speaking with Vulture in a recent interview, Ellen Page opened up about her interest in further portraying the character of Kitty Pryde on film. She said:

“Well, I’m available! [Laughs.] I love that. Kitty Pryde’s awesome. I’m super grateful to be the actress who’s gotten to be her, and you only desperately hope that the true fans who have a right to demand what they want and who have been passionate about these stories for a really long time, that you can pull it off for them. I would be so thrilled to play Kitty Pryde again. I really would.”

Page originally took on the famous role for X-Men: The Last Stand and will soon step back into the shoes yet again for X-Men Days Of Future Past.

In an interesting twist, Joss Whedon has gone on record saying he’s toyed with the idea of writing a spinoff film with Pryde as the lead, and so has Juno director Jason Reitman. Nothing further has developed as far as we know for either project, but both are exciting ideas nonetheless. Comment below and let us know if you’d pay to see a Kitty Pryde film with Page as the star.

I need to know more about her role in ‘Days Of Future’ past before I can decide either way. I like the character, but Page hasn’t done enough with her to judge whether or not she could carry a solo feature.

Definitely has potential! Of all the female X-Men, I think I’d rather see a film about Storm (personally), but we don’t want to really give Hollywood a heart attack by having not just a female lead but a woman of colour as well. Can’t be having that.
